CHARITY COOKBOOK TAPS RECIPES FROM LOCAL CELEBRITIES
by Karen Robinet
Chatham This Week, January 16, 2008

Eight years ago, tax consultant Tony McPhail decided to take his passIon
for cooking and put it to good use.

He put together the first edition of the Chatham Kent Celebrity Cookbook,
which ultimately raised $60,000 for local charities.

The fourth edition of the book has just been published, compiling the
culinary secrets, fond memories and family traditions of the who’s who of
Chatham-Kent.

“Everybody has a favourite recipe and celebrities love to share their
favourite things.” He said, noting that 500 of the cookbooks have been
donated to Goodwill Industries, along  with another 500 to Chatham Kent
Outreach for Hunger.

“I’ve committed to donating 5,000 Chatham Kent Celebrity cookbooks,
said McPhail, adding  that another 5,000 will probably be printed before
the current edition completed.

Baseball legend Fergie Jenkins, figure skater Shae Lynn Bourne and
country star Michelle Wright are among the Chatham-Kent natives who
offered up their favourite recipes as well as host of other people from
government, various organisations, businesses and media outlets.

McPhail said there are just over 100 recipes in the book, including a
couple of new personal favourites.

We’ve got the best baked bean recipe I’ve ever tasted,” said McPhail,
who says that recipe even converted his own daughter who “never  eats
baked beans.”

Another recipe that has received two thumbs up from both McPhail and
his wife is a Portuguese recipe for mussels.

The book, he said includes everything from “desserts to seafood to
pastas, really good stuff.”

McPhail said he decided to produce the fourth edition of the cookbook,
noting that “there is a whole range of brand new celebrities since the first
book appeared.”

And plans are in the works for at least six episodes of a cooking show on
cogeco tv that will show case some of the recipes in the book.  The
recipes will be prepared by the celebrities who contributed them.

In addition to publishing the cookbook, McPhail said He has also done
some fundraising for other groups in the community through his company
Chatham Kent Helping Hands.

Now He’s looking at branching outside of the community, with plans to
create cookbooks for Goodwill Industries in both Sarnia and Windsor.

He said the Sarnia book will help celebrate the organizations 75th year in
the city and will feature 75 recipes from celebrities including golfing star
Mike Weir.  McPhail said he has a tight deadline for the Sarnia book as the
plan is to have it out in time for Mother’s Day.

The Windsor book will be later in the year.

The cookbooks are available at both Outreach for Hunger and Goodwill
Industries, or by calling 519-355-4412 or by e-mailing

CELEBRITY COOKBOOK READY
Buyers urged to come and Get it

by Bob Boughner

Chatham Daily News

The fourth annual Chatham-Kent Celebrity Cookbook is hot off the press.

The 2008 edition features favourite recipes of more than 50 well-know
personalities throughout the municipality.

Among those featured in the book are Chatham-Kent Police Chief Carl
Herder, country singing star Michelle Wright and chatham-Kent Essex MP
Dave Van Kesteren and two Chatham Daily News writers.

".....
they should fly off the shelves."  Tony McPhail, Project Manager

"We have some excellent people and some very excellent recipes in this
year's book," said project manager Tony McPhail.

The book sells for $14.99 and proceeds will go to Chatham Outreach for
Hunger and Goodwill Industries in Chatham.

"This year, for the first time, Cogeco Cable TV in Chatham is planning to
tape a number of cooking shows featuring celebrity cooks in the book."
said McPhail.

He said taping of the shows will take place in the spring at Dimitar's
restaurant on McNaughton Avenue West.

"The cable TV company is planning at least a half dozen shows," he said.

McPhail said the demand for the books has been "brisk" in past years.

"And with the quality recipes available in the 2008 edition they should fly
off the shelves." he said.

The book also contains recipes from baseball star Fergie Jenkins of
Chatham, Mayor Randy Hope, Ken Tremblay of the Chatham-Kent Health
Alliance, figure skater Shae-Lynn Bourne and Lambton-Kent Middlesex
MPP Maria Van Bommel.

"Our vision is that the cookbook will help many fine organizations
continue the good work they do in our community,"said McPhail.  "Our
hope is that the public will enjoy the many recipes in the book and use the
cookbook for many years to come."
